Janet Newton

Janet holds a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. She taught graphic design and multimedia at Illinois Central College for 25 years. Recently retired, Janet now has time to pursue her art full-time from a studio in her Peoria home. This home is filled with lots of drawings, paintings and other delightful things – including plenty of kids and grand kids.

 

Artist Statement

Many people believe that Tarot cards are more than just ink on paper, that they allow us to access our subconscious mind through occult symbology. A deck contains 78 cards, each with a theme from everyday life experience. I am not a fortune teller, but an artist fascinated with this ancient archetypal art form which has survived since the mid-15 th century. This year I join my creative predecessors and reinvent yet another deck of Tarot cards.
