Feltmaking Workshop

About the class:
In the morning, explore wet felting to shape wool fibers. Create a small landscape, still life or pouch, or work 3-dimensionally.  Learn how to create with fleece.  Make layers, slits, sculpt objects and explore adding beads and stitching. In the afternoon, discover dry felt as we learn to “draw” with the fleece and yarn with needle felting.​

What’s Included:
All materials are included, covered by a $8 material fee (non-refundable) that is included in the cost. Feel free to bring an old wool sweater and/or
textured yarns to work with.

What to Bring:
Scissors and lunch. There will be a ½ break. Lunch can be refrigerated.

Please plan to arrive at Contemporary Art Center 10-15 minutes before the start of the class. When you enter the building, look to the left for the passenger elevator. Press 3R. Upon entering the 3 rd floor, head towards the bathrooms as the classroom entrance is next to it.

About the Instructor:
While this Rock Island artist and educator employs centuries’ old techniques, her innovation delights fans of weaving. Rowen Schussheim-Anderson has taught at Augustana College, Figge Art Museum, Smithsonian Institution, National Endowment for the Arts’ Artists-in-Education program, Maricopa Community College and Arizona State University where she earned an MFA. Her work is in private collections in the US and abroad. She has exhibited internationally and across the country. Her exhibit, Tapestries of Innovation was exhibited at Contemporary Art Center of Peoria, February 28 – April 11, 2025.
