Roy Rogers

Biography

Roy was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended primary and secondary schools until moving to Peoria, IL. in the mid-sixties. He apprenticed in a company as a tool and die maker and then worked in a family owned industrial business for thirty-five years. Roy's educational background follows.

-AAS. (fine arts) Illinois Central College, E. Peoria, Illinois
-BS. (fine arts) Illinois State University. Normal, Illinois
- studied figurative sculpture and casting at the Contemporary Art center, Peoria, IL. for over three years.
Graduate Student {Master of Arts Program} Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts Bradley University 2015 - Peoria, IL.

Found objects and figurative images are his favorite art engines, which he uses to express himself on all subjects. During his lifetime he has traveled to Europe and throughout North America where he has experienced art at its best. Roy has been influenced by many artists but the standouts are Duchamp, Picasso, Nolde, Marin, ManRay and most certainly, Preston Jackson.

He has received awards for his work from private galleries, university galleries, and one nationally juried exhibition. Roy also has been in selected and solo and exhibitions around the state and has done many sculpture commissions over the years as well. In addition to sculpting, Roy enjoys painting and drawing (abstract and realism) finding it very rewarding.
